Word Remover
Text Remover from Video
Word Remover is an online text remover from video for unwanted words embedded in video frames, including burned-in subtitles, labels, and timestamps. Upload a supported video, select the text area and its timing, and process the selection. Results depend on the background detail and movement behind the text; reconstruction cannot guarantee the original hidden detail.
A separate subtitle track may be switched off in a compatible player or editor. Burned-in words are part of the picture and need changes to the video frames. Keep your original file and use footage you have permission to edit.

Word Remover at a Glance
| Item | What to know |
|---|---|
| Input | H.264 MP4 or MOV. HEVC and WebM are not supported. |
| File size | Up to 100 MB per uploaded video on all current tiers. |
| Free trial | One eligible video, up to 30 seconds, without login. Browser, network IP, and signed-in account records determine eligibility. Shared networks may already have used the trial. Registration does not add another trial. |
| Paid access | Sign in and buy processing credits. Maximum length per video: Starter 5 minutes, Creator 15 minutes, Pro 30 minutes. These limits differ from the total processing time in a pack. |
| Selections | Multiple fixed boxes, with an independent start and end time for each. No automatic text tracking. |
| Output | A separate H.264 MP4 download, exported at the source frame dimensions. Video is re-encoded; retaining dimensions does not guarantee unchanged detail or quality. |
| Audio | The first original audio track is copied without audio re-encoding. Export can fail if that track is incompatible with MP4. Additional audio tracks are not included. |
| Billing | Processing credits cover the full uploaded video duration, rounded up to whole seconds, even for shorter selected ranges. A failed processing task releases its reserved allowance. Previewing the completed result does not add a processing charge. |
| Storage | The current privacy policy publishes no fixed video retention period. Uploads leave your device; do not assume a closed page or expired link deletes the file. |
Check pricing and processing packs for available credits and read the privacy policy before uploading. For storage or deletion questions, contact Word Remover.
How to Remove Text from a Video with Word Remover
- Check whether the words are embedded in the picture. Try switching captions off in your player. Use an editable text layer or clean source when available.
- Click Choose video, or drop an H.264 MP4 or MOV into the editor, within your current size and duration limits. Keep a backup of the original.
- Click Add selection. Move and resize the box around the complete lettering, including its outline and shadow, with a small margin. Add separate selections for text in different places.
- Drag the start and end edges of each selection’s timeline range to match the moments when its text appears. Play or seek through the source to check the box at different times. Boxes stay fixed; they do not follow moving words.
- Click Start removing text once. The editor shows processing status and prepares the result. A shorter selection range does not reduce the charge for the full uploaded video.
- Play the result at normal speed, then pause on difficult frames and transitions. Check picture and sound, and download the MP4 when the result is acceptable.
What Types of Text Can Word Remover Remove?
Word Remover attempts to reconstruct areas containing embedded lettering. A small label over a plain wall is a different task from a paragraph crossing a moving face. The selection and the background matter as much as the kind of text.
| Text type | How to approach it |
|---|---|
| Burned-in subtitles | Select the full caption line, including its widest appearance, outline, and shadow. Check changes between lines and shots. |
| Labels and lower thirds | Select the lettering. A colored backing panel or graphic symbol may remain; text removal does not guarantee removal of the whole graphic. |
| Timestamps and timecodes | Include all digits and separators. A fixed position may use one box; check wider digits later in the clip. Preserve dated originals when recording context matters. |
| Moving or changing text | Use separate timed boxes for distinct positions. Continuous motion, rotation, scaling, and fades can require broad selections and produce visible artifacts. This is manual selection, not automatic tracking. |
| Separate subtitle tracks | Switch the track off in a compatible player or editor instead of changing the picture. Word Remover’s repair tool is for text embedded in frames. |
What Results Can You Expect?
The covered area is an estimated reconstruction, not a recovered original. Letters can hide real scene detail that is absent from the source. A repair may leave a soft patch, uneven edges, remaining text, or flicker between frames. It cannot guarantee the face, sign, or texture that was behind an overlay.
Faces, hair, hands, crowds, water, and repeating patterns give you more details to inspect. Movement and scene cuts can expose a mismatch that is hard to see in a still frame. Thin letters, translucent text, and fading overlays can also leave fragments. Start with a short sample containing the hardest background and longest line, then judge it at the size your viewers will watch.
The export keeps the source frame dimensions, but the video is re-encoded. Neither the repaired area nor the rest of the picture is promised to be a lossless copy. If reconstruction is too distracting, use a clean source, crop, or deliberate cover.
Text Removal vs. Cropping, Blurring, and Subtitle Switching
| Method | When it fits | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Subtitle switching | A separate caption track exists. | Cannot remove words burned into video frames. |
| Cropping | Text is near an edge and the framing can change. | Removes part of the scene and changes the composition. |
| Blurring or a cover bar | A deliberate obscured area is acceptable. | The covered area remains visible and hides scene detail. |
| Re-exporting the project | You have the original editable text layer. | Requires the project, its assets, and an editor that can open it. |
| Clean source or reshoot | Footage without the overlay is available or can be recorded. | A matching clean version or the same scene may be unavailable. |
| Text repair with Word Remover | Words are embedded and you want to attempt reconstruction of the covered area. | Estimates missing detail; blur, flicker, and incomplete removal are possible. |
Tips for Cleaner Text Removal
- Include the complete lettering, outline, and drop shadow; leave only a small margin around it.
- Check the longest line and busiest background before committing a whole video.
- Use separate fixed boxes and time ranges for different positions or appearances.
- Check when every selection starts and ends, including fades and transition frames.
- Treat graphic panels separately: a bigger text box does not guarantee that the panel disappears.
- Play the result at normal speed first, then inspect difficult frames or cuts. Check the downloaded sound and picture too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a text remover from video the same thing as a subtitle remover?
The tasks overlap when subtitles are burned into the picture, but a separate subtitle track does not need image repair. Word Remover edits embedded lettering by reconstructing the covered area. If captions disappear when you switch the subtitle track off in a compatible player or editor, use that setting instead. If they remain in the picture, select their area and timing to attempt a repair.
Can it remove words that move or change during the clip?
Moving text can be attempted only when your fixed selections cover it during their active time ranges. Word Remover supports multiple boxes and separate timing for each, but does not automatically track text. Add timed boxes for distinct positions; continuous motion, resizing, rotation, or text crossing detailed objects can leave missed letters or visible artifacts.
Do I need the original project file or software?
No original project file or editing software installation is required to use Word Remover through your browser. Use a supported exported video file. Preparation and export run in the browser, while uploaded footage is also checked by the service and the selected clip is sent to a third-party AI processing service. Files do leave your device. The result downloads as a separate file.
Will the repair leave a visible mark where the words were?
Yes, text removal can leave visible artifacts. Word Remover estimates the covered area, so blur, softened edges, flicker, or remaining lettering can appear, especially over faces, hair, moving objects, and repeating textures. It does not guarantee an invisible repair or recovery of the original background. Compare the preview with your source before using it.
Can I remove text from a vertical or square video?
Word Remover can work with vertical or square videos that meet the supported format, file size, and duration limits. Place each box inside the actual picture, excluding any surrounding player bars. The editor uses positions relative to the video image rather than a fixed landscape layout. A portrait or square shape does not guarantee a clean repair; inspect difficult areas and the downloaded result at the intended viewing size.
Which formats and how long can the clip be?
Word Remover accepts H.264 video in MP4 or MOV files. The current upload limit is 100 MB for every tier: the free trial allows up to 30 seconds, and paid Starter, Creator, and Pro access allows up to 5, 15, and 30 minutes per video respectively. These are per-video limits, not the total minutes included in a pack. Paid processing also requires enough remaining balance for the whole uploaded video. HEVC and WebM are not supported by this workflow.
Is there a free way to try a text remover from video?
Word Remover offers one eligible free video up to 30 seconds and 100 MB without requiring login. Trial eligibility is checked using a browser visitor record, network IP address, and account when signed in. A shared network can already have a used trial; logging out or registering does not grant another one. Further processing requires signing in and buying processing credits. Credits are charged for the full uploaded video duration, rounded up to whole seconds, even when selections cover a shorter time range. Previewing a completed result does not create another processing charge.
Do I need permission to remove text from a video?
Use Word Remover only for footage you own or have permission to edit and upload. Having a downloaded video does not by itself establish that permission. Check the terms for client-supplied or licensed material before removing attribution, broadcaster credits, or other identifying text, and retain the original source separately from the edited copy.
